The Royal Film Commission- Jordan (RFC) and the Ministry of Culture signed a memorandum of understanding, renewing the ‘Jordanian Film Caravan’ project, which was launched in 2013. The project aims to enhance and promote film culture in the Kingdom’s governorates, as well as provide film-lovers with the opportunity to watch the latest Jordanian cinematic productions.
The Minister of Culture, Dr Lana Mamkegh, said, “She is pleased with the success of the “Jordanian Film Caravan” project and hopes that its continuity will contribute to the promotion of the cultural movement in Jordan, especially in the Governorates. Mamkegh added that the renewal comes within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to support the local cultural scene and film sector. She stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation ties and providing support and care for the institutions and entities concerned with cultural affairs, such as the Royal Film Commission.”
On the other hand, the General Manager of the Royal Film Commission, George David, emphasized, “The RFC is proceeding with projects and initiatives that provide film screening activities all over the Kingdom.” David added, “Jordanian films have become present in the Arabic and international cinema forums; hence the importance of showing these films in Jordan.” He also praised the role of the Ministry, through its Directorates of Culture, that contributes to the success of the project.
It is worth mentioning that the “Jordanian Film Caravan” project started in March 2012, where the (RFC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture organized the screening of Jordanian films in all Governorates. Such screenings included the film “Cherkess” by Mohyeddine Qandour, “The Mission” by Hammad al Zoubi and “Transit Cities” by Mohammed Hushki. The films were very well received by the local audiences.
The Royal Film Commission is keen on developing and supporting the audio-visual sector in Jordan through providing ongoing training courses and film screenings in the Capital and other cities.
