Netflix’s latest news to start production in the Middle East adds to the list of video streamers in the region. It is producing its first local production in the Middle East with Lebanese comedian and actor Adel Karam, according to a statement released by the company on October 9th. Performing his laugh-a-minute stand-up comedy, the first Middle East original is expected to be launched to all Netflix members around the world in 2018.

Netflix is a leading internet entertainment service with 104 million members in over 190 countries, enjoying more than 125 million hours of TV shows and movies per day, including original series, documentaries and feature films.

After launching in Asia in 2015, streaming service Iflix is positioning itself as a low-cost alternative to Netflix in emerging markets.

With a subscriber base under 5 million and a $90-million infusion from such investors as Sky and Liberty Global, Iflix expanded in 2017 into the Middle East and North Africa, through a joint venture with Kuwait-based telco Zain.
