Ditching Qatar Airways, Barcelona FC gets new sponsor

Barcelona football club presented Asian e-commerce conglomerate Rakuten as its new global sponsor. The new sponsorship contract, lasting for four seasons, means that this season 2016/2017, Qatar Airways remains as the club’s global sponsor, as was agreed by members last month.


Saudi billionaire says all public stakes are potentially for sale

Saudi billionaire prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud said all the stakes he owns in public companies, including Twitter and Citigoup, can be for sale, Bloomberg reported.

This reverses a long-standing belief that some of his prized shareholdings are considered to be held forever.


Brazil approves Qatar Airways’ buy of LATAM Airlines stake

Brazil competition regulator Cade approved Qatar’s bid to buy a stake in LATAM Airlines, the Chile-headquartered airline said.

Qatar Airways in July agreed to acquire up to ten percent of LATAM’s total shares following a capital increase of $613 million, through the issuance of new shares at $10 per share. (Read more about this story here)

Norway oil company signs Iran oil field deal

Norwegian oil and gas company DNO has become the second Western company to sign an energy deal with Iran, after France’s Total, since the lifting of sanctions.

DNO will study the development of an oil field in Iran, after it signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), to study the development of the Changuleh oil field in western Iran. (More on this here)

International Media Investments buys The National

International Media Investments has acquired ownership of The National, which has been owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Media since its launch in 2008.

A joined statement said that The National will remain at Abu Dhabi Media until arrangements for its transfer are completed.

The UAE’s capital of Abu Dhabi won a bid to host the 2019 Special Olympics World Games, bringing the games for the first time to the Middle East region.
