Bahrain plans 8,000 new homes per year

Bahrain's housing ministry is set to sign an agreement with private firms for the construction of homes starting next year, Daily Tribune has reported. The agreement will see between 6,000 and 8,000 housing units built each year, starting from 2013, said housing minister Basim Alhamer. "Currently 4,000 housing units are under construction in all parts of Bahrain with 1,400 in Muharraq. The ministry is trying its best to accommodate all requests," he said. "We are seeking to diversify methods of solving the housing problem, and cooperation with the private sector is one of those tools," he added.
