Iraq to set up sulphur purification plant in Mosul

The US Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im Bank) has agreed to guarantee a JPMorgan Chase loan totalling $35m to US-based Devco International for the design and construction of a sulphur purification plant for Iraq's Al-Mishraq Sulphur State Co. The company will design, procure, manufacture, and pre-assemble the plant in the US and then ship the plant in modular form to Iraq. Upon arrival, Al Hawarth, an Iraqi-owned company, will re-assemble the facility outside the city of Mosul. The plant will process sulphur from underground deposits utilising a priority process, Submerged Combustion Distillation, developed by CTI Consulting. Al-Mishraq, which will own and operate the facility, plans to retail the purified sulphur output in Iraq for domestic use.
