Jordan failed to implement higher education strategy

Jordanian former higher education minister Walid Maani has said the 2007-2012 National Higher Education Strategy did not meet its goals, Jordan Times has reported. The strategy failed in its main objective of reforming the criteria for admission into the kingdom's public universities, Maani said. Although amending the admissions system was a priority, it has not been done, and a student's score on the General Secondary Education Certificate (Tawjihi) examination remains the sole criterion that determines what he or she can study and where, he said.
