Abu Dhabi hotel review: Al Raha Beach Resort

Abu Dhabi hotel review: Al Raha Beach Resort

Al Raha Beach Resort is a place you have no doubt driven past on your journey on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Highway. The large expanse that is the soft pink coloured complex is hard to miss and appears sprawled out along the sheltered Gulf coastline.

Originally it was one of the few landmarks on the road that gave you any indication as to your current location, nowadays however with the development of the Yas Marina Circuit, home of the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix, and the Aldar corporate headquarters it is in good company.

In addition, the surrounding developments at Al Raha are mushrooming at extraordinary rates and will continue to expand and develop this tourist destination and growing residential community.

Within a really comfortably short taxi journey from the exhibition site of ADNEC in Abu Dhabi and 50 minutes from Dubai Media City, it is as prime a business location as it is a leisure destination.

Al Raha Beach Resort is an entertaining destination itself, whilst it appears a little dated as an 80's Spanish theme with wood effect, you are enveloped at the entrance with a design fusion of colour and print. This property has plenty to offer with view, amenities as well as in terms of the location.

    Spacious room size

The property has a very surprisingly spacious room size throughout the complex. It has 110 guest rooms in all and 24 elegantly furnished villas which include two-, three-, and four-bedrooms, a very welcome addition to a holiday destination.

In-room facilities are equally comfortable: large beds, enormous pillows and general good quality linen. The bathroom could easily accommodate a small family by itself; and include the usual accoutrements of hairdryer and toiletries readily available.

In general rooms have very adequate lounge seating and working desk space with an array of the usual TV channels to entertain.

    Dining at Al Raha Beach

There are a handful of dining facilities at the complex all with a variety of diverse offerings. Sevilla, the main dining facility located at the opposite end of the lobby serves buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner. They provide special themed nights on occasion but generally have a wide selection of dishes on offer; the buffet style selection may however become a little monotonous after two days. You can also enjoy, now with the cooler months approaching, La Piscine – which is located amidst the private enclave of the pool area and offers a relaxing mix of Continental, Arabic, and Far Eastern flavours.

Azur offers a Mediterranean cuisine with daily specialities with an al fresco feel, the Black Pearl is a piano bar, Café Mozart located in the lobby serves an English afternoon tea with soothing live music to while away the hours and Enigma caters to the nightlife scene.

    Onsite entertainment

A very private beach facility both for the hotel and furnished villas are separated individually for maximum privacy. The pool area at the hotel complex offers a relaxing setting for both adults and a generous and safe children's' play facility with shading, it services all family needs. There is even a play facility for small children located next to the gym at the pool level.

The Al Raha Beach Resort has a small selection of outdoor activities and services for the health conscious. An enclosed beach allows for those less adventurous to paddle safely in a kayak near the shore. The gym facilities are well maintained and the squash courts provide a change from the norm. The spa facility located on the Executive level has an indoor pool with sauna and Jacuzzi while the spa services are apt for a quick treatment request.

The hotel has additional special touches like the full –service concierge and offers complimentary shuttle services to the main shopping malls in the capital, Abu Dhabi.

The new Al Raha Beach extension

The property does surprise in little ways and is well worth looking at as an alternative destination of choice. With the expansion of the property's new wing opening in late October an additional 144 rooms will offer a completely redesigned style and ambiance to the property.

The views from the new wing will be beautiful, on the South overlooking the Yas Island and to the North overlooking the villas and Abu Dhabi.
