Air traffic controller shortage a 'hazard'

There is a world-wide shortage of 3,000 air traffic controllers, an industry conference in Africa has been told. According to Marc Baumgartner, CEO of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations, the shortage is evident in all regions, including the Middle East, and 'represents a serious hazard to the flying public'. He said air traffic controllers were working excessive overtime, leading to mental fatigue.
