Airbus raises 2013 order target

European planemaker Airbus has increased its order target for 2013 to over 1,000 aircraft, compared with a previous goal of over 800, Reuters has reported. Airbus is locked in a battle to regain leadership of the $100bn annual jet market after arch-rival Boeing claimed the top spot in both orders and deliveries last year. The new target puts Airbus on course to beat its 2012 gross order tally of 914 aircraft, sales chief John Leahy told the news service. Boeing reported 859 gross orders between January 1 and mid-July, compared with an Airbus total of 758 in the first half.
