Microeconomics consultancy Frontier Economics has been selected by Bahrain's Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) to design and manage a suitable competitive process for the licensing of post-third generation (3G) mobile services. "As of now we are open to all the licensing options in terms of the number of licences to be awarded and the type of companies to be selected," said TRA chairman Dr Mohammed Al Amer. "All the options are subject to extensive economic study to ensure a suitable awarding process," Al Amer said. The regulator will announce its decision on the mechanism of the licensing process later this year, following the finalisation of the study by the consultancy firm, he added.
