Drug arrests rise in Dubai

The rising number of British tourists being arrested in Dubai has prompted the British Embassy to stress the need for drug awareness among visitors to the emirate, reported Gulf News. Simon Goldsmith, second secretary for political and media affairs at the embassy, said tourists need to be aware that Dubai has a 'zero tolerance' policy regarding illegal drugs and 'you can go to prison for four years'. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office website contains travel advice and information about local drug laws, and operated a 2006 'Know Before you Go' campaign to raise awareness.
