Egypt reports 14.6% rise in tourist numbers in May

Official figures released by the Egyptian government showed that around one million tourists visited the country during the month of May, a 14.6% increase compared with last year, Daily News Egypt has reported. "It is true the number of tourists visiting Egypt increased, however, the rate of daily expenditure of these tourists decreased significantly," said Elhamy El-Zayat, chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Federation, citing low accommodations cost as the main reason.
