Etihad boosts Virgin Australia stake

Etihad Airways has said is has raised its equity stake in Virgin Australia Holdings to 10%, representing 221 million shares which have been bought on the open market over recent months. The Abu Dhabi-based airline said it received Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) approval to increase its holding from 5% to 10% six weeks ago. Etihad began flying to Australia in 2007 and along with Virgin Australia they operate 24 flights a week between Abu Dhabi and Australia.
