The Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha at its annual corporate Iftar, brought people from different walks of life - those who are privileged and those who are not so privileged , the labourers from Adopt-a-Camp , to break their fast and dine together to feel part of the mainstream society.
They were welcomed by Ms. Roxana Jaffer, CEO of the Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha, among other noted guests were Ms. Saher Shaikh - founder of "Adopt-a- Camp" and Mr. Ashraf Hamouda -- Head, Partnership & Business Development of United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
In its efforts to make a difference in the life of labourers, who have helped construct many iconic buildings in Dubai, the hotel accorded them a special experience of dining in a Five Star Hotel. The extensive Iftar buffet was a blend of Oriental, Continental and Arabic cuisine, with an array of typical Ramadan beverages. Further the labourers went home extremely spoilt, with special gifts and individual framed pictures as mementos of the evening.
In her speech, Ms. Roxana Jaffer, expressed confidence in her team who drive Holiday Inn Dubai – "Loves You Campaign" (HI-LUC) as an initiative that enables every member of staff to become socially responsible.
The Holiday Inn Dubai - Al Barsha, an official partner with World Food Programme of United Nations consummated through an executive partnership in December 2012 pledges to help raise funds to nourish the worlds hungry.
As part of the initiative of Corporate Social Responsibility, the hotel donates a dollar from the revenue generated from every Iftar served at The Gem Garden and every room booking in this auspicious month. "Ramadan is a time to indulge in acts of charity, kindness and benevolence. We took this initiative as part of our endeavour to make the world a better place for all. It takes only one dirham to provide a meal to a child for a day."
Roxana stated "I am proud to say that with concerted efforts of the staff and the donations from the hotel, we have raised funds that have enabled sustenance for 200,000 mouths for a day of the global hungry."
The brief programme before the recitation of verses from the Quran also included an address by Mr. Ashraf Hamouda, a key official of the UNWFP, the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger.
Mr. Ashraf Hamouda praised the Holiday Inn Dubai - Al Barsha for its continued partnership with the WFP and for making a significant contribution in its effort to eradicate hunger from the world.
As parting words, Mr. Hamouda mentioned "This was the best Iftar at the best hotel in Dubai that I have experienced, encouraging us all to be socially responsible"
