Khalifa port to see 20% traffic growth next year

Tony Douglas, the chief executive of Abu Dhabi Ports Co (ADPC), has said the new Khalifa port is expected witness a 20% increase in container traffic in 2013, as the emirate's nearby industrial park continues to expand, Zawya Dow Jones has reported. The dockyard, located half way between the Abu Dhabi and Dubai, started operations in September and since then more than 80% of the container traffic has been transferred from Abu Dhabi's older port, Mina Zayed. It is expected to handle 800,000 TEUs this year and one million TEUs in 2013, driven by the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad), which opened earlier this year and already has a 25% occupancy rate in its 51sq km first phase. Douglas said.
