Kuwait to build $11bn rail network

Kuwait has announced plans to build an $11bn national rail network, reported Reuters. Speaking at the Meed Kuwait conference, chairman of the Kuwait Overland Transport Union Saeed Dashtia Kuwaiti said about 500km of rail will be laid at a cost of 1.8 billion dinars ($6.59bn), and will form part of a planned network across the Gulf region. Plans include a 245km line to run from the country's northern border with Iraq to the frontier with Saudi Arabia in the south, with links to the main airport and port.
