MAF Properties plans Beirut, Dubai hotels

Majid Al Futtaim Properties has unveiled plans to build a hotel in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, and another in Dubai to tap demand from visitors to its shopping centres, Bloomberg has reported. The owner and operator of 12 malls is seeking Beirut's approval for a 175-room hotel opposite its recently opened City Centre mall in Hazmieh, said the Dubai-based company's executive managing director for hotels, Salman Haider. "This is our region and we know how to judge the risk," Haider said. "If Lebanon is risky today, that's fine. We take the long-term view." The firm is also designing a 275-room hotel near the company's Deira City Centre in Dubai's old quarter. The property will be five star, Haider said, declining to give cost estimates or name potential operators.
