New hotel projects intensify competition, threaten profits

Industry experts have said new hotel projects coming online in the region are expected to intensify competition in the hospitality industry that will outpace the demand and pose a serious challenge to hoteliers to maintain their profitability, Khaleej Times has reported. Dubai and Abu Dhabi clearly demonstrate show how hotel markets can cope with balancing demand and supply to maintain profitability, said Ayman Ashor, the general manager of Abu Dhabi's Tilal Liwa Hotel. "Increasing room inventory has been a dominant factor influencing performance in the past and will continue to do so as the region remains attractive for hotel owners and operators," Ashor told the daily.
