Giovanni Bisignani, the former IATA director general, has said over-capacity is the air transport industry's main problem, which he does not believe will ever be resolved, Air Transport World has reported. "This industry has to become profitable. We have tried everything, but the biggest and only sin is handling capacity," Bisignani said. US carriers have "started to become more wise" in their capacity control, but added that the entire system needs to exercise strict capacity discipline to become profitable, he said. However, when asked whether this would be possible, Bisignani said "no, never."
