Villa Rotana, Rimal Rotana and Rihab Rotana raised awareness to its guests and colleagues to switch off non-essential electrical appliances and rationalise use of electricity during peak hours.
18 August 2014 – Dubai, UAE - Villa Rotana, Rimal Rotana and Rihab Rotana partnered with Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) to raise awareness within the hotel to its guests and colleagues in order to reduce high levels of electricity and water consumption.
The 'Peak Load Campaign' raise awareness and educate guests and colleagues on the importance of avoiding the use of electrical appliances and devices during the peak load hours between 12-5 pm. DEWA has to increase its power generation capacity during these hours; resulting in higher consumption of fuel and increased gas emissions.
Aiming to encourage guests and colleagues to reduce their energy consumption during peak hours, the 3 hotels distributed promotional sticky notes to the guests at the time of check in by attaching it on the card keys folder. The campaign is extended to internal colleagues as well by distributing the same and showcased in colleague's cafeteria, locker rooms and accommodation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kinan Al Ghraoui General Manager of Villa, Rihab and Rimal Rotana said: "Instilling a culture of energy conservation within our hotel and colleagues accommodation is our primary objective while also guiding our guests and colleagues to efficiently balance their electricity usage during peak-load hours. All of us need to play an active role in the preservation of our environment and we are confident that supporting this educational initiative will achieve our objective."
During peak load times in the summer, energy consumption in Dubai rises dramatically, with air-conditioning alone accounting for nearly 60 per cent of the power usage by residential and commercial users.
