Russia bans civilian flights over Syria

Russia's air transport agency Rosaviation has banned all Russian civilian planes from flying through Syrian air space until further notice after the crew of a Russian passenger jet reported coming under threat over the war-torn country, AFP has reported. "The federal air transport agency believes that in this situation commercial interests cannot prevail over the safety of people who use the services of Russian airlines," Rosaviation said. The aircraft carrying 159 passengers said it detected "signs of combat actions" on the ground in Syria, Russian officials said without providing further details.
