Salalah sees tourist numbers drop 29% during Khareef

According to data by Oman's National Centre for Statistics and Information, the number of tourists in the first 15 days of Salalah's Khareef season was 29% less than the figure for the same period in 2012, Muscat Daily has reported. In the first 15 days of the season, which begins on June 21 every year, the region received 22,356 tourists, while the number for the same period in 2012 was 31,356. The drop was attributed to Ramadan beginning soon after the start of Khareef, as well as the postponement of the Salalah Festival until after the holy month.
