Saudi considering raising fuel prices to promote public transport

Saudi Arabia's High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh is considering raising fuel prices to make more motorists use public transport, Arab News has reported. "High fuel prices will prompt a considerable number of private car owners to depend on the metro and buses for their commuting," the commission said. Another proposal to discourage people using private vehicles is to impose fees for car parking, it said. On Sunday, Riyadh governor Prince Khaled bin Bandar, chairman of the commission unveiled the $22.5bn Riyadh Metro Project.
