Sellers of unregistered SIM cards in Saudi face fine

Saudi Arabia's Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has decided to extend for two months the grace period given to telecoms companies selling unregistered pre-paid SIM cards, Saudi Gazette has reported. Earlier this month, the commission issued a decree making it mandatory for the kingdom's cell phone subscribers to provide their national ID (Iqama) number when they wish to recharge or transfer credit to other cell phone users. After the grace period ends, the CITC will fine violators SR5m, said CITC governor, Abdullah Al-Dharab.
