UAE-based Thuraya has developed a device that enables iPhone users to make satellite calls, The National has reported. The SatSleeve converter gives users access to Thuraya's satellite network from anywhere in the world. The adaptor is also a back-up battery for the iPhone. A free SatSleeve application, available through the Apple App Store in 12 languages, is required for the converter to work. Thuraya is also developing a similar adaptor for smartphones that run Google's Android operating system.
