Toyota opens third Brazil plant, eyes engine factory

Toyota has inaugurated a $600m plant in the southeast Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, its third in the country, with an initial aim of producing 70,000 cars a year, AFP has reported. The facility will begin turning out Etios compacts in September, with engines imported from Japan, the carmaker said. Toyota also plans to invest nearly ¥40bn ($511.9m) to build an engine plant in Brazil that will produce around 200,000 engines for Etios and Corolla vehicles. The facility is set to be ready in 2015.
