UAE to restore old visa rules for Canadians from June 1

The UAE has announced costly visa requirements imposed on Canadian travellers will be cancelled as of June 1, ending a row between the two countries that started in 2010 over aviation rights, AFP has reported. The UAE in January 2011 started charging Canadians $1,000 for a six-month multiple entrance visa, while three-month and one-month visas cost $500 and $250 respectively. Last month, UAE foreign affairs minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Canadian counterpart John Baird agreed to restore the previous visa regime.
