UAE to toughen inspection procedures of imported used cars

The UAE government is set to introduce a technical examination mechanism for used vehicles imported to the country from January 1, 2013, Gulf News has reported. The inspection procedures set by the interior ministry have been finalised and will be implemented in cooperation with the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (Esma). Under the new regulations, the issuing of vehicle examination certificates would be linked to vehicle registration procedures in other cities, ensuring vehicles meet regulations and don't suffer from technical flaws, said Lt. Col. Suhail Al Khaili, the head of vehicle licensing at the Abu Dhabi Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Directorate. The new procedures aims to ensure conformity with new Esma, international and GCC standards, he added.
