Look who’s hiring in the UAE

UAE’s private sector is on a recruiting drive, as local and international companies fill voids created by the need for IT skills, air travel, e-commerce, and more.

A new study by IDC found that Salesforce, the global leader in CRM, and its ecosystem of partners in the UAE, are set to create 20,300 new jobs and $3.9 billion in new business revenues by 2026.

In the Middle East and Africa, IDC forecasts that cloud-related technologies will enable businesses to focus on establishing their digital HQs to deliver customer and employee success from anywhere. Remote work, contactless customer engagement, and sustainability efforts are becoming more prevalent than ever, and IDC expects this trend to continue.

IDC forecasts that from 2021 to 2024, global migration from on-premise software to the cloud could reduce as much as 1 billion metric tons of CO2.  And Salesforce has a number of programs and initiatives to help create the jobs of the future:

Etihad Airways

Recently, Dubai’s Emirates Airlines also announced that it would recruit 3,000 cabin crew and 500 airport services employees to join its Dubai hub over the next six months.

Also, Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways is hosting a major recruitment drive to hire up to 1,000 individuals with hospitality experience to join the airline’s cabin crew, as the aviation sector recovers from COVID-19.

The international recruitment days are taking place in 10 different cities across the Middle East and Europe, including UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Russia, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Selected candidates will undergo a comprehensive training program in Abu Dhabi, which includes all aspects of cabin safety and service delivery.

Etihad’s cabin crew are provided with tax-free income, company medical insurance, concessional travel benefits, transport, uniforms, fully furnished company accommodation in Abu Dhabi, and discounts on food and beverage and leisure activities in Abu Dhabi.

Amazon

Amazon is to create 1,500 jobs in the UAE this year as part of plans to increase its storage capacity by 60% and the area of its delivery stations by 70%, it said recently.

Under its expansion plans, Amazon will open four new delivery stations in the UAE to boost last-mile capabilities and by the end of 2021, storage space in the UAE will be spread over more than 3.7 million cf, equivalent to nearly 40 Olympic-sized swimming pools.  

The value of the UAE’s retail e-commerce market, which rose by 53% to a record $3.9 billion last year, is projected to reach $8 bn by 2025, according to the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

UAE Sectors hiring

About 72% of UAE companies plan to hire new employees within the next year as the labor market improves following pandemic-induced job redundancies and salary cuts, according to a new survey.

The top industries looking to hire new employees in the next three months are healthcare and medical services (66%), human resources (65%), and consumer goods/FMCG (64%), the employment index survey from jobs site Bayt.com, and market research agency YouGov showed.

About 45% of UAE companies that plan to hire in the next three months will recruit people for a maximum of five roles, while 25% are looking to fill 6 to 10 positions, the survey found.

A separate recent survey by Bayt.com and YouGov showed about 25% of UAE employers are seeking to fill customer service representative positions within the next 3 months, while 19% of companies are also looking to hire sales executives in the same time frame, followed by HR managers and receptionists on 17%.

Meanwhile, 52% of UAE employers are looking for employees with good communication skills in English and Arabic, 48% are seeking team players, 43% want to hire people with good leadership skills and 37% said the ability to work under pressure was important.

The most sought-after academic qualifications among employers in the UAE include business management at 34%, followed by engineering at 28%, and information technology at 17%, the survey added.
