Al Manara International Jewellery, the leading timepiece and jewellery retailer in Abu Dhabi, presents the Father’s Day Gift Guide to reward your hero.
This selection of 10 stunning watches has something for every kind of dad on the list, from the cigar connoisseur, to the racing enthusiast, to the watch collector who delights in high-precision movement components.
The Hublot Arturo Fuente Forbidden X watch features real tobacco leaves in its dial, the same leaves as those used to create the prestigious Forbidden X cigar.
These leaves were sent from the Fuente Estate in Santo Domingo to the Hublot Manufacture in Switzerland so that engineers could insert them in the dials via a high-tech process where epoxy resin is used to make them stable and rigid. Each watch is delivered in its own little treasure chest of a display case; a wooden “humidor” cigar box, developed by Hublot to regulate the humidity and ensure the cigars are stored in perfect condition.
The latest Excellence Automatic Regulator by Louis Erard, part of the Excellence flagship collection, gains in modernity, making its debut with an automatic calibre. As always, Louis Erard takes innovation beyond mechanics and stands by its credo of timepieces that bear the hallmarks of Haute Horlogerie at an affordable price. The 42 millimetre diameter timepiece in polished steel offers the choice of a silver-toned or a black dial.
The H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Black Edition is a bold new take on traditional watchmaking, one of the most innovative yet user-friendly complications ever produced. This unique movement marks time by adjusting for leap years and the different number of days in certain months, while the Flash Date Calendar harnesses the energy to switch the date accurately in a fraction of a second. The burnished glow of the Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Black Edition hints at the material within: the case and pin-buckle clasp are titanium with a DLC treatment, while the dial’s black surface is punctuated by rose gold indices and hands.
The Superfast Chrono Porsche Edition is a limited and numbered series of 919 pieces by Chopard. Dedicated to the new Porsche 919 Hybrid, it celebrates the partnership between Chopard and Porsche Motorsport in the FIA World Endurance Championship. This imposingly sized COSC certified chronograph with its 45 mm-diameter case and flyback function beats to the pace of a mechanical Chopard 03.05-M calibre. The stripes on the dial evoke the racing car’s rear diffuser, while the rubber strap is inspired by slick tyres serving to negotiate bends at extremely high speeds.
Also by Chopard, the Mille Miglia 2014 chronograph pays tribute to the historical cars taking part in the most renowned of the classic car races. With its vintage details and its gentleman’s driver-style personality, this limited edition is the most Italian of the Mille Miglia watches.
The red arrow-shaped Mille Miglia logo appears on the dial as well as on the sapphire crystal case-back. Equipped with a self-winding chronograph movement guaranteed by the COSC, this timepiece shines as much by its outward aesthetic appeal as by its rigorous mechanical heart.
This Ulysse Nardin Dual Time Manufacture timepiece features a 30-meter water-resistant silver dial and 49 jewels self-winding movement. Easily readable with its Big dates and 2 windows, this timepiece enables a quick setting for the second timezone thanks to its + and – pushers.
With its precision of engineering and technology, Ulysse Nardin reveals through the Marine Chronometer Manufacture that art and innovation go hand in hand in leading the company in the most independent of ways. This timepiece bears all the hallmarks of marine instruments: a generously sized case with a 45 mm diameter for excellent readability, a fluted bezel, a screw-locked crown guaranteeing complete water resistance, solid lugs to ensure excellent stability on the wrist and, most importantly, an increased 60-hour power reserve.
The Bovet Fleurier Amadeo 43, with its exquisite 43-millimeter 18k white gold case and alligator leather strap, speaks clearly of its owner’s impeccable tastes. On the timepiece’s blue brushed dial sits a stately set of Roman numerals, while at its heart is Bovet’s exclusive 11BA12 automatic movement with a 72-hour power reserve. The oscillating weight that serves to wind the watch is made of ornately engraved 22K gold Fleurisanne.
The architecture and decoration of the Bovet Récital 15 convey a sense of unity of tradition and innovation. In keeping with the collection’s identity, the jumping hour is in a separate aperture at 3 o’clock. The elegance of the circular Côtes de Genève decorations centred on the seconds-hand, the sandblasted surfaces and polished steel, bear witness to the same masterful technique as that demonstrated by the Manufacture’s artisans when they engrave the totality of a movement by hand.
The crowning achievement of the Récital 15, among a host of breathtaking features: that such a density of watchmaking complications and technical craftsmanship could be contained in a 42mm diameter case with a total thickness of just 12.8mm.
