‘Barefoot luxury’: St. Regis to debut in Maldives

The St. Regis Vommuli Resort, scheduled for completion in 2016, will mark the debut of the St. Regis brand in the Maldives.

Part of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, the signature brand, which currently has over 30 hotels globally, will bring its luxurious services to the top travel destination.

“We are marrying the bespoke service of the St. Regis brand with the ‘barefoot luxury’ mentality of the Maldives,” says Ravi Appasamy, managing director of Residency Resorts Male Private Limited, with which Starwood Group signed the agreement.

“The brand’s allure, coupled with Starwood’s powerful loyalty program, is sure to entice affluent travellers to visit this enchanting destination,” Appasamy adds.

The new St. Regis resort will feature 77 luxe villas boasting distinct contemporary designs, inspired by the island’s nature and earthy colours. Located on a private atoll and spread across more than 20 acres, the resort is embraced by natural and unspoiled beaches and a secluded lagoon that meets the sparkling turquoise waters surrounding it. The location is a 40-minute seaplane ride from the capital city of Male.

“This incredible addition to the St. Regis portfolio has been conceived in perfect harmony with the island’s lush vegetation and pristine lagoon,” said Jim Petrus, Global Brand Leader, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, adding that the Maldives, a top address for luxury travellers, was a suitable destination to introduce and further expand the St. Regis brand.

In addition to haute-living, guests of the new St. Regis will enjoy treatments at a tranquil spa, relax in an infinity pool, gain access to a fitness centre and a space for yoga, in addition to engaging in activities such as diving.

This is not to forget the culinary offerings at the resort: an all-day dining restaurant, three specialty restaurants and a signature lounge.

Starwood currently operates 48 hotels in Southeast Asia, with an additional 48 hotels in the pipeline, signalling the company’s vigorous expansion in the region. Only recently, Rosewood announced the St. Regis Mumbai is scheduled to open before the end of the year – in addition to the W Goa Retreat & Spa and Le Méridien Nagpur, all in India; also, Le Méridien Paro, in Bhutan; Le Méridien and Sheraton in Dhaka, Bangladesh and Sheraton in Colombo, Sri Lanka, are all due to open within the next two years.
