Scandinavian countries, such as Iceland, Denmark and Sweden, are ranked among the most livable countries in the world and their citizens are perceived to be among the happiest and healthiest.
Cayan Hospitality, the hospitality arm of Saudi Arabia’s Cayan Group, has created a dedicated space to bring the Nordic experience to the Middle East by opening the region’s first LivNordic Spa in Dubai.
The spa, owned by Raison d’Etre spa consultancy, is located in the famous Cayan Tower on the Marina. Its ambience and treatments are focused on the tradition of Nordic well-being.
Anna–Cari Gund, the managing director of Raison d’Etre, says the spa is “the jewel in the crown and the birthplace for LivNordic in this region,”
She notes that the Nordic lifestyle is “quite hard to explain, because we do it everyday; it comes naturally to us.”
She bases the lifestyle on four pillars:
- Contrast, between hot and cold, dark and night, and other opposing elements to life
- Connection to nature
- The Nordic Bathing Ritual, in which contrast is practiced as one sits in hot water before dipping into cold water, providing a very useful shock to different systems in the body and the skin
- Nordic Fitness, focusing on physical activity and natural beauty
“If you are happy, content and feel well within, that is beauty for us,” Gund says.

The four basics pillars of the Nordic lifestyle are also the building blocks on which the treatments and offerings of the LivNordic Spa in Dubai have been tailored.
These include “Nordic Fitness, which can be practiced in the fitness centre and the café offers raw, organic food and beverages, bearing in mind the health aspect, all prepared with a twist from the Nordic countries using Nordic ingredients,” Gund says.
When it comes to treatments, the Swedish massage is found in almost, if not all, of the body treatments, but the spa allows clients to choose how to begin and end their treatment.
“It depends on how they feel and what they want out of the treatment, whether they are going for detoxing, relaxing or more invigorating ones,” Gund explains.
Looking to offer a fully organic experience, LivNordic spa is also moving towards using completely ecological and organic products for facials.
“We are all well aware of the goodness of Nordic traditions and thus extremely pleased to be bringing the revolutionary LivNordic Spa to Dubai with our esteemed partner, Raison d’Etre. I am positive that the spa will rapidly become an icon ion the region as it has the world over,” Ahmed Alhatti, president and chairman of Cayan Group said on the spa’s opening.
