The emirate of Dubai is welcoming some of the world’s top golfers to take part in this year’s edition of the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic.
Rory Mcllroy, who won the tournament last year, and Sergio Garcia are both brand ambassadors of Swiss luxury watchmaker OMEGA. They, among other international golfers, will be taking part in the tournament which starts this Thursday at the Emirates Golf Club.
“The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic has gained in reputation recent years and offers players a truly unique experience,” Raynald Aeschlimann, OMEGA’s Vice-President and International Sales Director and Member of Swatch Group’s extended group management board.
“This is a beautiful course in a thriving city and I believe it will continue to attract top-ranking golfers from around the world. Quite rightfully, it is now known as the ‘Major of the Middle East’,” he added.
The winner of the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic 2016 will be awarded a championship trophy, a checque and a luxurious OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Master Co-Axial, one of the brand’s latest timepieces.
The watch features an 18K red gold case, brown leather strap and 18K red gold hands and indexes that are coated with white Super-LumiNova so the dial is readable in all lighting conditions. It is powered by OMEGA Master Co-Axial calibre 8501, a movement that emphasises reliability, precision and an ability to resist strong magnetic fields.
The watch will also be presented to any golfer who scores the first hole-in-one on the seventh hole at the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic.
Since its inception in 1989, the Dubai Desert Classic has been part of the European Tour. OMEGA has become a title sponsor for the past seven years and will continue to be so until 2017, at least.
