Richard Mille presents two limited editions with Brazilian Formula One race driver Felipe Massa, marking a tenth-anniversary celebration of their partnership.
The new models, RM 065 and RM 011, appropriately named “10th Anniversary”, are dedicated to that partnership. Only ten models will be produced from the RM 056, while the RM 011 will be limited to 100 pieces.
Throughout the partnership with Felipe Massa, Richard Mille has had several firsts, such as a releasing a carbon nanofiber baseplate – which was first tested with the RM 006 FM and then used for a number of other models – as well as the processing of new materials such the Alusic cases on the RM 009 FM.
The race driver recently achieved 40 podiums in his career, after finishing third at the Austrian GP last weekend. After eight Grand Prix this year, Massa is now ranked sixth in the World Driver’s Championship with a total of 62 points. He is also the first sporting figure to have joined the Richard Mille family.
The RM 056 tourbillon calibre comprises more than 500 individual components, while the grade 5 titanium RMCC1 calibre plays host to one of horology’s most superb complications: the split-seconds chronograph.
Engineers at Richard Mille optimised the movement, fine-tuning the precision of time keeping and improving the operation of its split-seconds by reducing friction and ensuring the long-term reliability of the calibre.
All the fine components of the RM 056 are enclosed in a case made of sapphire taken from a single block.
The RM 011, according to the brand, has been dedicated to Felipe Massa since its conception, making it an emblematic model by Richard Mille.
The RM 011 features an automatic winding movement, RMAC1, the brand’s first flyback chronograph. Its calibre, completely crafted in grade 5 titanium, features an annual calendar, a 60-minute flyback chronograph and a countdown function. This is all assembled inside a case made of NTPT® Carbon, a material exclusive to Richard Mille.
Both watches feature Massa’s racing colours: the flanges, transfers, push pieces and crowns all feature blue and yellow. Meanwhile, Massa’s logo is delicately placed at one o’clock, in addition to other clever and subtle details that link back to the adrenaline-filled world of race driving through fine watchmaking.
