* UN adopted resolution for Happiness Day in 2012
* In UAE, National Happiness and Positivity Programme will organise “Journey of Happiness” parade
* This is in line with the vision of the UAE’s leaders
The world is celebrating International Happiness Day on March 20 and the UAE is preparing to jump on board.
In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution marking March 20 as International Happiness Day. It underlines the pursuit of happiness as a basic human right, and makes it a determining factor in setting public policies, facilitating sustainable development, the eradication of poverty and the provision of social welfare societies.
The National Happiness and Positivity Programme is organising a happiness parade called the “Journey of Happiness” on Saturday March 18. Her Excellency Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness, will be taking part, along with a number of leaders, public figures, and members of the public.
The full day event will also include a speech by minister HE Al Roumi, followed by awareness sessions on happiness and positivity, presented by local and international scientists and experts.
Children and families will also be able to enjoy educational and entertaining activities on happiness and promoting positive values.
The happiness programme, which has become a UAE government strategy, operates along three main pillars”:
Promoting happiness and positivity across private institutions
This is done through launching relevant initiatives and projects to ensure customer satisfaction, and establishing a genuinely happy work environment.
Measuring happiness and positivity
This is done at different levels, across employers, customers, the general public, etc. Measured data is collected through conducted surveys and indices to measure happiness across the UAE society.
Happiness and positivity as a way of life
This can be achieved by empowering people and educating them to effectively choose to be happy.
This is in line with the vision of the UAE’s leaders; His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, stresses: “The happiness of our citizens is a priority and sustainability goal.”
Meanwhile, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, asserts: “Spreading happiness and positivity in the UAE is an objective and a ‘corporate culture’ shared by all government entities; it is a way of life and a shared value.”
