Football fans around the world have been waiting on the start of the 2018 World Cup for years, and the wait is now over.
Russia takes on Saudi Arabia in the first match of the World Cup 2018 at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow (11 a.m. ET) on Thursday.
Russia enters the opening match in full strength, but they have yet to win a friendly in 2018, but things could be about to improve – according to a supposedly clairvoyant cat who predicted a win for the side in the first World Cup match.
Achilles, a white cat who is the official animal fortune-teller for the tournament, on Wednesday, chose a bowl of food bearing the host’s flag rather than that of Saudi Arabia.
But who is going to win?
Before Saudi even hits the pitch, it would have already won with anyone watching their pre-match entrance to the game.
Postgame warm-ups will be followed by the momentous entry of six women from the Kingdom, making history as the first all-female group to serve the Green Falcons as part of the Coca-Cola Flagbearers Program.
All aged between 13 and 17-years old, each represents the future, values, and character of the youth of Saudi Arabia. They will lead their national team out at the tournament in front of a global viewership of 300 million people.
The odds for the teams
According to the Independent, a UK news source, the chances of each team winning are as follows: Russia has 7/15 chances of winning, Saudi’s chances are way lower with Saudi being 10/1 chances of winning, a draw can also occur and is predicted to be at 37/10 chances.
But the prediction is that Russia will score at least one goal in their first match this World Cup, while Saudi won’t score a single goal, as per Independent’s predictions.
Uruguay: 8/11 Russia: 15/8 Egypt: 6/1 Saudi Arabia: 35/1 according to Betfair, a football website.
