The number of subscriptions in mobile telecommunications services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reached approximately 53.1 million by the end of the first half of 2015.
The ratio of the number of pre-payment subscriptions stood at the equivalent of 86.2 per cent with 45.7 million subscriptions, Saudi-based Okaz Newspaper reports.
According to an e-bulletin issued by the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), the prevalence of mobile communication services at the population level reached roughly 170.5 per cent.
The bulletin adds that, in late 2014, the CITC granted licenses for mobile virtual operators, which will contribute to improving service levels, increasing the diversity of the services provided to them, expanding the telecommunication market and allowing more options for subscribers.
CITC reveals that the number of phone lines in the kingdom reached close to 3.74 million lines by the end of the first half of 2015, including 2.62 million housing lines and 1.12 million are commercial lines.
