The 7 smartest initiatives at GITEX

As GITEX prepares to close another chapter on a glorious technology event, a clear message resonated across the halls: IQ is the next IT.

A number of smart initiatives were launched at the big event, signaling strong company re-positioning to meet the growing demands of the digital transformation era.

AMEinfo picked the 7 smartest initiatives from GITEX Technology Week 2017.

1- Smart e-trading

The Dubai Government launched Tejari, the online destination for all suppliers, vendors and service providers engaged in business with Dubai Government entities. The tool now allows government entities to have access to a greater pool of suppliers, enabling more competitive rates to meet their requirements.

2- Smart police

Smart Dubai in partnership with Dubai Police launched Fajwa, a system that will help identify the most talented, competent and compatible police candidates before investing in their talent and training.

3-Smart queries

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched with Avaya the video chat and call service, allowing people using sign language to initiate a video call by accessing the RTA website and clicking on the people of determination icon. The customer can be routed to the contact center and his queries will be answered by an RTA agent fluent in sign language.

4-Smart crime fighting

The world’s first Smart Police Service Centre operates without human intervention and it is open 24/7 to offer 27 key services, including reporting crimes, traffic incidents and community services. It will also offer 33 fully automated sub-services.

5- Smart payments

Qpal won $50000 for developing a mobile payment solution that speeds up payments for food and beverages at events compared with conventional cash methods, thus maximizing event revenues by shortening queues.

6- Smart transport

Swvl, an Egyptian private commuter shuttle service that helps travelers find the smartest routes across cities to airport hubs among other destinations for a flat fare, won the “Airport Transit Challenge” and $25,000.

7-Smart shopping

Bebuzzd won $25,000 for developing a one-stop shop for users who can pay merchants directly from the mobile application, while earning and redeeming points for their purchases.
