Adasi inks deal with Italy’s Piaggio Aero to finance MPA

Abu Dhabi Autonomous System Investments (ADASI) has signed a deal with Italian aircraft manufacturer Piaggio Aero to finance the Piaggio Aero MPA (multi-role patrol aircraft), a new special-missions surveillance aircraft based on the P.180 Avanti II. Under the accord, ADASI is to provide financing for Piaggio to build two prototypes, with first flight scheduled for 2014. According to Piaggio, the special-missions aircraft will have an endurance of more than 10 hours, a maximum range of 3,300 nm and a ceiling of 41,000 feet. Saab's defence and security division will supply, develop and integrate a full suite of airborne sensors and surveillance systems for the MPA.
