Ajman Tourism Development Department launched Sunday morning the Tourist Guide Program; the first of its kind in the emirate, with 30 trainees attending.
The English-language program, in cooperation with Skyline University College and Ajman Transport Corporation, targets a sustainable tourism industry in the emirate through training industry-related workers in the various fields to help them get a tourist guide license in Ajman, Yamina Aoucher, Director of ATDD’s Licensing and Tourism Standards, said in the opening session of the program at Ajman Museum’s Sheikh Humaid Hall.
Out of ATDD’s keenness on effective cooperation with its partners, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between ATDD and Ajman Transport Corporation to include 100 taxi drivers to the program in January, she added.
ATDD’s cooperation with Skyline University College comes as part of a memorandum of understanding signed by the two parties earlier this year, Aoucher noted, adding that by virtue of such an agreement the College would offer a variety of consultancy services to ATDD, including this Tourist Guide Program.
The Program comprises of three levels; beginners, UAE nationals and Arabic-language speakers, and professionals who already have their licenses from any UAE emirate, she stated. The year 2015 will witness the organization of about 10 courses for these levels, she concluded.
