Al Maktoum International freight volumes soar 16 per cent

Decline in passenger numbers attributed to reopening of Dubai International airport’s runways

Freight volumes at Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport rose by 15.9 per cent during the first nine months of 2015, shows a report.

According to a report issued by Dubai Airports, Al Maktoum’s freight volumes stood at 662,143 tonnes, compared with 571,001 tonnes recorded during the first nine months of 2014.

Al Maktoum saw a decline in passenger traffic during the first nine months of this year, amounting to 283,455 passengers, down by 61.39 per cent compared with 734,126 passengers during the same period of 2014.

Dubai Airports attributes this decline in number of passengers to the fact that many airlines that had moved their operations to Al Maktoum, during the 80-day period of runway closure at Dubai International, moved their operations back to Dubai International.

With regards to aircraft movements, the total number of aircraft movements declined during the first nine months of this year to 30,003, down by 16.5 per cent, compared with the 35,968 aircraft movements during the corresponding period of 2014.
