His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has recently received in his office H.E. Cheong Ming Foong, Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in Dubai, as part of RTA efforts to boost cooperative relations with various local, regional and international entities.
During the meeting, the two parties explored means of boosting cooperation between the RTA and its counterpart in Singapore as well as Singaporean companies operating in rail, roads and transportation sectors, besides screening the forthcoming road and infrastructure projects in Dubai.
Al Tayer commended the Singaporean model in developing transportation infrastructure and undertaking a host of start-of-the-art transit system projects oriented towards boosting the role of public transport and adopting it as a preferred mobility means for population. He noted that the RTA had established sound cooperative relationships with the Singaporean entities culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Land Transport Authority in Singapore for enhancing strategic partnerships, sharing expertise in all global developments related to transportation activities, and cementing the friendly & cooperative bilateral relationships. Moreover, teams from the RTA had paid several visits to Singapore to review its experience in constructing and operating rail and tram systems.
For his part, the Singaporean Consul in Dubai praised the sweeping development seen by the Emirate of Dubai in a record time rendering it a focal point for investors, business leaders and tourists, thanks to the wise leadership and shrewd vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He also hailed the Dubai Metro project which has become an iconic addition to the urban landscape of Dubai, besides coaxing a quantum shift in transiting experience across the region let alone beating traffic congestions.
