Apple’s iPhone 5 is UAE’s most popular handset

The UAE’s Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) has said 46% of registered handsets in the country are smartphones, Khaleej Times has reported. According to the regulator, the iPhone 5 was the most commonly used smartphone in the country, with 2.8% of the total handsets registered on networks, followed by the Samsung SIII with 2.5% of the market share, iPhone 4S (2.3%), and the iPhone 4 and BlackBerry 9900, both of which had 1.8% market penetration. Of all handsets registered on the UAE networks, 56.2% were manufactured by Nokia, followed by Samsung (16.4%) and BlackBerry (10.2%), said the TRA.
