Is there a feel-good story with AI, what with its perceived threat of robots and machine learning replacing humans in key job categories?
There is and this one touches current and upcoming generations, where AI actually provides the very tools we need to excel, perform and stake our rightful place in the future of work.
AMEinfo conducted an interview wit Aaditya Tangri, Co-Founder & CEO of Kalebr Americas and Founder of STEAMathalon, to answer questions around this issue. Here’s what he said.
1-Could you briefly describe the impact of AI-augmented education, as well as the importance in future-proofing the upcoming generations?
We are seeing AI impacting education positively in two major ways. Firstly, it is freeing up time for educators that would otherwise be spent on personalizing learning experiences, assessments, data analysis and reporting. This means that educators are able to spend more time on providing one-on-one attention to learners in addition to earning increased free time from administrative tasks. Secondly, learners are able to use AI to bring their STEAM school projects to life through innovating on a smaller scale. This allows an introduction to the concept, power and impact of AI from an early age, providing students with much-needed skills for the future prior to entering the work-force.
2-Are we moving away from a world where we have a linear study-work-retirement progression to a slightly more flexible ecosystem of apprenticeships, upskilling? How is this affecting educational models as well as HR recruitment models?
Acquiring trade-specific skills is only one essential component of being successful in any respective field. Work-ethic, teamwork, critical thinking, communication, well-being, life-long learning and social skills are equally important. In many ways, schools, universities and colleges provide an atmosphere for individuals to learn these fundamentals without the fear of failure. Although the linear “study-work-progression” may stay the same, the work portion will ultimately develop to see individuals working in multiple teams across multiple projects and therefore require them to have the steadfastness to continue to learn on the job.
3-Could you shed light on the importance of personalized education, differentiated learning, adaptive instruction and "interdisciplinary academic intelligence"?
AI is playing a pivotal role in offering personalized lessons and education pathways to learners. This is incredibly important as there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to learning, as people learn in different ways. They won’t always be at the same level at any given point of time and might not be interested in the same topics. AI saves time by pre-empting areas of support, providing leading indicators of strengths and areas requiring improvement, promoting inclusivity and enforcing equitability across assessing learner progress.
As for interdisciplinary academic intelligence, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) integration within the core-curriculum is on the rise through project, concept or phenomenon-based learning depending on the region or curriculum body affiliated with the institution. Raising awareness of STEAM is important as this is how team members address real-world challenges in the workforce.
4-Could you share some data/use-cases on how AI tools are being implemented in enhancing education?
I can only speak about ParOne STEAMathalon, the world’s first AI Golf Tournament. Using the exciting nature of AI, teams were given a challenge to create their own AI Golf Robot to compete in a golf tournament. The ease of being able to develop and train their own AI models that powered their Golf Robots intrinsically motivated learners to practice STEAM based learning, or interdisciplinary academic intelligence one could say. Along the way, teams acquired key future skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, well-being and tolerance. This is a direct result of Kalebr making AI accessible to learners of all ages and providing them with an opportunity to bring projects to life while mimicking real-world workplace settings.
