Bahrain airport passenger traffic up 24 per cent last month

Number of flights also increased last month by 14 per cent and air freight rose by 49 per cent during the first 7 months of the year

Passenger numbers at Bahrain International Airport increased by 24 per cent last month, according to recent statistics issued by the Ministry of Transport, while the airport’s indicators recorded positive performance.

Recent data issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communication showed that Bahrain International Airport welcomed 750,000 passengers in July compared with 605,000 passengers in the same month of 2014, Bahrain-based Al Wasat Newspaper reports.

The first seven months of the year witnessed growth of eight per cent in passenger traffic, which reached 4.9 million passengers.

The number of flights also increased last month by 14 per cent, as the total number of arriving and departing flights via the airport reached more than 8,000 flights last July and the total number of flights this year reached 58,000 flights with a six per cent increase.

Air freight rose by 49 per cent during the first seven months of the year, as the total number of mail and packages transported via the airport reached around 121,000 tonnes compared with73,000 tonnes last year.

Regarding jet fuel, figures show that sales of Bahrain Aviation Fuelling Company (BAFCO) reached 13m gallons last month, indicating a 23 per cent increase, while its sales all year reached roughly 82m gallons with a 12 per cent increase until the end of last July.
