The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Bahrain has published on its website on the 10th of December 2014 a public consultation document on the Bulk Messaging Regulation.
This public consultation document has been launched with the intention of enhancing and improving upon the provisions of the current Bulk Messaging Regulation to ensure that the end user’s privacy is better safeguarded.
The new changes to the regulation are a result of the detailed discussion with the ICT industry and also take into account the Authority’s analysis of the nature of complaints that the TRA and the telecoms operators in the Kingdom of Bahrain have received on the issue of Bulk Messaging.
The Authority encourages all interested parties, especially the end-users of which, to comment on the public consultation documents. Consumer participation will assist the Authority to come up with a comprehensive Regulation services and protect their benefits.
Acting Director of Legal Affairs, Dr. Jean Pierre Scerri was quoted in saying “These additional improvements to Bulk Messaging regulation are necessary to the protection of consumers by minimizing the amount of unsolicited messages that may inconvenience them.” Mr. Scerri also added “It’s an important issue and we look forward to receiving comments and feedback from our stakeholders so that we may take the matter forward.”
The public consultation documents are available for viewing on the TRA website www.tra.bh and the public consultation document will effectively end on the 11th January 2015.
