British ships to carry armed guards in Gulf

Britain's prime minister David Cameron has said ships sailing under a British flag will be able to carry private armed guards to combat the threat from pirates, the Associated Press has reported. Evidence showed that "ships with armed guards don't get attacked, don't get taken for hostage or for ransom," Cameron said in a television interview. Britain will introduce licenses for ships operating off the coast of East Africa, the Arabian Sea and other parts of the Indian Ocean, he said.
