Egypt targets EGP90 billion investments in transportation

Egypt’s Ministry of Transport agreed with a number of Chinese companies to implement high- speed train project over the next year

Egypt’s Ministry of Transport is seeking to apply the use of smart cards in public transport system, according to the minister of transport Dr. Saad Aljyoshy.

Aljyoshy adds that the ministry also aims to improve the transport services, as well as prepare a plan for the development of the transport industry, reports Egypt-based Shorouk News.

The Egyptian minister revealed that his ministry is targeting investments in the field of roads and transport during the current fiscal year, amounting to about EGP90 billion, adding that his ministry began to implement about 37 projects so far.

“We agreed with a number of Chinese companies to implement high- speed train project over the next year “, said Aljyoshy explaining that the initial investment for the project reaches up to $1.5 billion.

On the other hand, Aljyoshy revealed that his ministry is planning to begin implementation of the “Transportation Court”, saying it would impose discipline in the transport and communications sector in general.
