Etihad Airways and Airbus begin RNP-AR implementation in Abu Dhabi Terminal Airspace

European plane maker Airbus has said an Etihad Airways Airbus A330-200 has performed the first high precision and environmentally efficient Required Navigation Performance – Authorization Required (RNP-AR) approach to Abu Dhabi International Airport, marking the beginning of full RNP-AR implementation throughout the entire terminal airspace of Abu Dhabi. Developed by Airbus subsidiary, Quovadis, the new technology approaches use continuous descent operations and optimised trajectories to reduce fuel consumption by up to 200 kilograms and reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20,000 tonnes per year, Airbus said. Last year, Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Airport Co selected Quovadis to develop RNP-AR procedures for both Abu Dhabi International and Al Bateen Airport.
