FBI launch probe over tech sales to Iran

US authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether China's ZTE Corp conspired to illegally ship hardware and software purchased from US tech firms to Iran, UPI has reported. A Department of Commerce inquiry into a $130m transaction found FBI investigation found evidence ZTE is engaged in an ongoing attempt to corruptly obstruct and impede. The alleged sale to Iran's government-controlled telecoms company would be a violation of several federal laws and a trade embargo imposed on the Islamic Republic. ZTE officials allegedly began attempting to cover up details of the deal after news reports in March said the telecoms equipment sold to Iran was a "powerful surveillance system capable of monitoring landline, mobile and internet communications."
